For Moms: Coping with Stress

OVERVIEW & PURPOSE

Mothers are on the front lines of helping families adjust to life during a pandemic. In this group, we will dedicate time to gaining psychological skills to cope with new stressors, applying these skills to our daily lives, and connecting with others. Useful ideas will be explored from mindfulness practices, cognitive behavioral therapy, and acceptance and commitment therapy.

PROGRAM OBJECTIVES
  1. Develop mindfulness and grounding skills

  2. Learn the connections between your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors

  3. Expand your self-care repertoire

​MEETING OVERVIEW
  • Meeting 1: Introductions and Guidelines, exploring cognition and emotion

  • Meeting 2: Grief “stages”

  • Meeting 3: Scaling emotions and the role of anxiety

  • Meeting 4: Getting activated and battling depression symptoms

  • Meeting 5: Self-care when under pressure

  • Meeting 6: Mindful navigation of stress

  • Meeting 7: Acceptance and diffusion techniques

  • Meeting 8: Review, future directions, and goodbyes

MATERIALS NEEDED
  1. Zoom Video access via Desktop, Laptop or iPad. (No phone usage with Zoom)

  2. Notebook or Journal (paper or digital)

Duration: 8 weeks

Session Length: 60 min

Day: Mondays 

Time: 8pm - 9pm PT
